Candela was formed back in 1999 by guitarist, guitar maker and ethnomusicologist, Paul Aguilera. the aim was to develop a modern and forward-looking repertoire of Flamenco, mixed with other Mediterranean, Middle-Eastern, Jazzy and Celtic Flavours.
The current line up includes Philippe Barnes, a flautist of exceptional talent who has been a BBC young Folk Musician of the year finalist, Fernando 'El Cubano' who sings with that crucial Flamenco Soul, Ben Sarfas, a Jazz violinist of exceptional with impressive improvisational abilities, Gerry Mapstone who is well on the way to mastering the rigours of Flamenco guitar and Miller 'El Garbanzo', a virtuoso Cajon percussion player.
Supper club menu available: £20 for two courses, £25 for three courses.

The Brighton event to mark the International Day Against Homophobia 2007, commemorating the day in 1990 that homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organisation's list of mental illnesses.
The event starts at 8.30pm close to the Volks Railway Pier Station and the Crazy Golf Course. The event, a great success last year, will include a performance by the Rainbow Chorus and City Of Brighton Gay Mens Chorus, a minute's 'noise' in remembrance of victims of homophobic violence. There will also be speeches by local political and community groups. Following this, the release of 77 sky lanterns will represent the 77 countries that still persecute gay people. Free Entry |
