Dance and cabaret tents saved?

Friday, 20 November 2009

Following Tuesday's public meeting, Brighton Pride trustees have issued a press release stating that they are now prepared to accept proposals for businesses wishing to sponsor a main dance tent and a cabaret tent.

"It was clear from both our own survey and the feedback from the community and businesses that have loyally supported Pride so long, that they disagreed with our proposals to drop the main dance tent," said acting Chair Robert Clothier.

They have now promised to honour the three year contract with Aeon Events for bar concessions by offering a similar number of bars on the park, rather than the previously proposed 50% reduction.

The statement goes on to say that although they will complete the tender process for contractors on the park - if none are deemed viable then they will look at "other proposals". Currently Wilde Ones, the company that has staged the event for the last ten years, has not entered the tender process, deeming it impossible given the changing goalposts and the new 70 page tender document that makes what they consider to be unreasonable demands.

Pride will also now be looking for someone "acceptable to both the business community and voluntary sectors" to help bridge the gap between those sectors and Pride.

The full press release is available on www.brightonpride.com and in the REALBrighton Business News.
