Gaydio wins full time licence
Manchester's LGBT radio station set to broadcast year round

Gaydio wins full time licence

Friday, 7 November 2008

A lot of hard work on the part of the Gaydio team and a wait of almost exactly a year has finally secured the local LGBT Manchester radio station a full time FM radio licence.

The station will be shifting up a gear now that Ofcom has granted Gaydio a licence to broadcast 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Gaydio first made its mark covering events around Manchester's Pride festivities in 2006, broadcasting from the LGF building at the end of Canal Streeet in the gay village. As well as securing their local FM frequency, the station also broadcasts its shows around the globe using web streaming technology. The full time licence will mean that the station needs to find itself a more permanent home in order to deliver year-round programming to a local, national and international audience and will undoubtedly mean more involvement from people in the community.

REALManchester has been a very active and vocal Gaydio supporter and sponsor from the outset, providing professional website services and live event listings to the station.

Huge, huge congratulations to Ian, Toby and the team... this is a real milestone and we look forward to welcoming you back on air both locally and around the country!

I am happy that Gaydio is on full time now - we can get Gaydio in Bexhill in Sussex. (I am gay and I have a boyfriend for 14 years!)
