Farewell Taz!
Taz loses brave battle with cancer.

Farewell Taz!

Wednesday, 9 July 2008

It is with much sadness that we report the death of Taz Vickery last week after a very brave battle with cancer at home, surrounded by family and friends. Taz was a much loved scene personality with an incredible vocal talent and will be sorely missed by a huge circle of friends. Taz performed at many venues in Brighton and also gave up her time supporting and singing at many Pride events both locally and across the country. Our thoughts are with her partner, Tiff Richardson, and her family.

The funeral has been arranged for Wednesday 23rd July at 3pm at Downs Crematorium with the cortege departing from her home in Bannings Vale in Saltdean. Afterwards, everyone will be welcome to a celebration of Taz's life upstairs at Charles Street Club - which is fully accessible with a lift at the back of the downstairs bar. Taz specifically requested that no-one wears black - regardless of how flattering it is! Please dress in bright colours.

Rather than flowers, Tiff has asked that donations are made to the Cat Protection League in her memory - donations can be sent directly to Grosvenor Dignity Office at 110 Lewes Road, Brighton or alternatively, you can donate online at http://www.cats.org.uk/donate/oneoff.asp

Please feel free to share your messages of condolence here and we'll ensure that they are passed on to Tiff and the family.

My favourite memory of Taz is one night at the Pink Pony. I was working at the Royal and, as I knew most of the company, they asked me where I was off to after the show, I told them "Kareoke at the Pink Pony". Much to my amazement they all were up for it.

So in we troupe, me, Rula Lenska and Michael Pread and the rest of the cast (Tony Smart was in seventh heaven!) just as Taz was leaving. "Where the hell do think you're going?" I asked Taz, "to pick up Justine from work", "No you're not" I reply "You're going back on that stage and you're singing Mustang Sally, now". She looked around, smiled and dutifully did what I'd asked.

I'll never forget the look on the faces of those established actors as the first notes of Taz's voice hit them, they'd never heard anything like it, she gobsmaked them all. As she finished they gave her a standing ovation, she was so chuffed.

Of course she shot off to pick up Justine who forgave her for being late because she wanted to meet Michael! That was such a fun evening for us all, it's not often you get to hear Rula Lenska, Michael Praed and Taz all do Kareoke on the same stage....what a night, what a friend, what a voicet!

Ride Tazzy, Ride.......see you backstage. x Andrea

Taz,
she was amazingly warm and staunchly supportive and an underated artist herself. She'll be sorely missed because she was a prolific presence on the gay scene.
love to you, Taz,
Topping & Butch xx

My Taz :)

Fortunate enough that I was to have been around to say farewell during the last 36 hours before your passing... It pains me so much to know we have to deal with what is now left without you x.
As I kissed your hand and told you what I wanted to say, you shed a tear,
that I was to be left here.

Of course, like many others who cared deeply for you, I am so very sad now that you are missing from my life.

I'll be priviledged to see you again, and for you to invite me on stage to sing with you - to share and appreciate that precious space with you, to bask in the power of your amazing, undeniable talent!
My family are all devastated to learn of your passing... my mum and Stevie send love to you hunny x

I love & miss you girl, but I know you and Sue are shooting pool togehter having a good old laugh!
Until the time we will meet again...
Hold on Taz, my dear friend.

P.S... I forgot to add... a few of us girls got a CD together and have put it out there to raise some funds for the Martlets Hospice. So far we have got a whopping £155, and still more to come hunny!
The cd's went very quickly at Pride this year, thanks to Lu and the crowd in the Women's Tent, for putting up with me full of Champagne & tears - heehee! Yet there is still a futher demand... I have been mailing copies of the CD to mutual friends in Manchester, my family up in Scotland, and even some have gone as far afield as Australia! Didn't I always tell you that beautiful strong voice of yours will go far! xxxx
