Back in January 2005, a group of guys got together and formed The City of Brighton Gay Men's Chorus, their motivation being to create a welcoming environment in which gay men could sing in company. Their aim was simple: to raise money for charities through innovative and exciting public performances, to foster and promote understanding and tolerance of the gay community and to raise the profile of the gay community through performances in a wide variety of public arenas.

Since then, the chorus has performed at a number of high profile events, including The Phil Starr Tribute Gala at the magnificent Dome Concert Hall. They have also performed at Winter Pride in Whitehawk, The Brighton Festival and The Golden Handbag Awards.

CBGMC have also joined forces with the Rainbow Chorus for World AIDS Day 2005 and supported the London Gay Men's Chorus in their Christmas Spectacular Show at the Brighton Dome.

The City of Brighton Gay Men's Chorus rehearses weekly at the Brighthelm Centre in North Road (near to the station) in the evenings, followed by a social drink at the Brighton Tavern. Membership is open to all gay and gay-friendly men, regardless of ability - they welcome bath and hairbrush singers as well as those with more experience. The repertoire includes everything from classical to opera, pop to funk and everything in between - so you can be sure of a tune for everyone!
