Nestled beneath the converted Old Picture House on East Street is PoNaNa. Full of eastern promise, the interior is Souk themed, conjuring an image of decadence, the Pasha’s harem and Turkish delight with a twist of the burlesque. The large bar area provides plenty of choice with a considerable and inventive cocktail menu too. The bedouin bedlam softens at the rear of the venue, where private seated booths can be reserved for groups with table service – perfect for celebrations.
The dancefloor and stage area provide the setting for a variety of nights, including Brighton virtuoso Boogaloo Stu and his ‘Calvacade of Pop’. Fridays see the extensively named ‘Somewhere In The Universe There Must Be Something Better Than Man’, one of Brighton’s fresher starts to the weekend!
PoNaNa has come of age in recent months and that is reflected in the clubnights and the crowd it attracts. A more sophisticated following that spans age and sexuality has ignited a truer Brighton spirit – and that’s got to be good for all of us!
