Nicholas knows good food

Our resident foodie, Nick Roberts, certainly knows his stuff in the culinary world. Renowned for always having a little something about his person, he can be relied upon in any situation to have a Tupperware box of some exotic salad, a few slices of delicious cake and a word of advice before you head into the kitchen. Time to tuck into Nick’s catering prowess!

Pride is upon us and although food won’t be high on the agenda for a lot of you party peeps, it’s important to keep yourself recharged and refuelled. This year's theme is 'Pride Around The World' and culinary-wise, it's going to be that way too. So here's my pre-Pride party pick and mix of what to expect over the weekend...

Breakfast is more important than ever; whether you're having friends around for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon or stopping off on the way to the parade. There's a few special things going on before the Parade on Pride morning including Bubbly and Bacon sarnies at The PV, Eggs Benedict and Fizz at The Prince Arthur or a selection of Smoked Salmon, Cold Meats, Champagne and Strawberries at Pokeno Pies. My personal favourite will be the full works in the chilled out secret garden at The Street on St James Street. It's always the perfect way to start the day before the onslaught of whistles, sequins and feathers attack the senses from all directions.

In the park, as well as the Fairtrade organic co-op stall, there is also going to be a huge plethora of bountiful food from all corners of the world including Turkish, Caribbean, Mexican, Thai, Japanese and Hog Roasts. There is really no excuse not to get stuck into something new (and I’m not speaking about an unsuspecting tourist, though that will of course be high on my agenda!)

I enjoy a bit of down-time with friends after the park and before the partying really gets started in the streets so I always make sure to have some nice things to nibble on in the fridge as well as plenty of beer. This needn’t be too over the top - what I’ll be stocking up on are some paté, sausage rolls, a bit of salad stuff, Polish kabanos and, dare I say it, savoury eggs, all of which can be grazed on at leisure over the weekend.

So, as well as partying around the world this Pride weekend, why not eat your way around it too!
